Getting into Bhutan

Travel by Air

The easiest way for visitors to enter Bhutan is by air. Druk Air is Bhutan’s national carrier and Bhutan Airlines is a private airline company. The Airlines’ fleets consists of modern Airbus A319 which are perfectly designed and crafted for high altitude landings and take offs. The pilots are especially trained and internationally licensed for mountain flying and have an impeccable safety record, without a single mishap since its inception in 1983.

On clear days the flight to Bhutan offers spectacular views of the Great Himalayas including Mt. Everest (the highest mountain in the world), Mt. Kanchenjunga, Jhomo Lhari, Kula Gangri and the full grandeur of the spectacular snow capped Himalayan mountain range.

Pel Bhutan Travels will book your tickets well in advance avoiding the last minute rush esp. during the peak seasons. To do this you need to confirm your trip especially during the rush of Spring and the Autumn festivals at least 3 or 4 weeks in advance.

Travel by land                                                                                                         

You can travel either by Phuentsholing in the west and Samdrup Jongkhar in the east via India. The town of Phuentsholing is located approximately 170 km east of the Bagdogra Airport in India. The travel time from Phuntsholing to Thimphu is about 5-6 hours covering 176 kms. Samdrup Jongkhar is in the far east and takes approximately three days by car to reach Thimphu, the Capital.
